"Quiero ir a Alabama. Quiero montarme en un camion y conducir mientras me ajusto la gorra y abro mi camisa, dejando al aire libre esa camisa vieja de tirantes y todas las ganas de quemarme con el sol, de bañarme en un lago cualquiera y de tocar la guitarra alrededor de un fuego."
- Hey, honey, come here Ally.
- Jeez, leave me alone, Jack, and go back home. I'm gonna stay here a couple more minutes. Good night - she said turning her back to him.
He started walking away, but instead of getting into the truck, he hid behind a tree next to the fire. He was not surprised when she started to sing the old song they once. He knew her so well. People definitely do not change even when twenty years passed away. Not the deepest things in you. He looked at her, his little Ally. That shirt used to look so big on her and now, in twenty years ( maybe more, or maybe less) she had sudden filled all the space with her new woman shape. She looked older, but not less beautiful. She never was a perfect woman, nor with make up or tight clothes. Not the type of woman in the cities are usually called perfect, but for Jake, she was the most amazing woman ever. She did not need all those things. She could be cooking and with the hair in a mess, dirty with flour or mud all over her jeans, and still smiled and light up the whole place, wherever she was. A doubt born inside him. Did she think the same way about him?
Ally was looking at the fire as if this had something to tell her. As if the flames could solve anything, no matter how complex it was. She smiled when she thought about it. This was not easy to solve. A sudden smell came into her nose. His smell. Jack's smell. How hard was to forget that. All the little details when they are stuck in your head and seem not want to leave. She remembered how his arms used to hug her when they were alone. But he left, he did not even ask her if she wanted him to stay. He used to be more clever, she thought. And then, she heard the noise of a little tree branch that broke under some boots just behind her.
